WooT!! Dyno Numbers

Well today been fun, I got my 72 on a rear wheel dyno and Im very happy with the numbers

355hp @ 3100 RPM

612FPT @ 2900 RPM

This is from a lightly modded 427 marine engine in my 72 F-100

427 bored 10 over Decked 10, Stock Marine Cam, re-chromed Cyl walls Hi-Val Oil Pump, Oil Cooler, Reserved External Oil tank hold 5 Qts, 2 Oil Filter, OEM 4bbl Marine Intake, Edelbrock street 600 cfm carb with a 1in spacer. 180 thermostat. C6 with a B&M Towing Shift Kit, 9in rear end with 4.11 gears with a Welded diff ( Home made locker ), and 31x10.5x15 Tires.

While this isnt the most powerful, the Toque is what I was after for towing Boats and Horses.

Awesome numbers...but I'm always interested in the story... where'd you find a marine 427, what is the difference compared to a "normal or standard" 427, whatever that means? compared to a 428 what did the rebuild cost you? i'm looking for for 428 for my crewcab but i've been told don't go for a cj or scj, why not? If I find a marine 427 or any other 427 should I go for it? Why or why not? What where your challenges building a marine 427, would you do it again?

I work on Boats for a living first off. I brought a Chris Craft that had 2 of the 427 in it from salvage. It came off a trailer going down the high way, destroyed the hull. The Marine block is about 100lbs heaver, Has Chromed Cyl wall. Is a true 4 bolt, Not the cross bolt like the cars/trucks. and the tranny bosses are NOT drilled or tapped. The Cyl walls are much thicker also, Marine engine are designed to work much harder the cars/truck, Unlike cars, Boats dont coast at all, You working the engine all the time. And Since this block is from Chris Craft, they also do a lot of porting and smoothing of the intake runners. All the Ports are matched. If you check In Boards engine in boats, ther Lower HP but much higher torque.

Nice numbers, I bet with the 4.11 gears he'll stay pretty thirsty. With that big hoss, you should be able to run 3.25 gears with plenty of power and better mpgs.

With all the uphill towing, Id rather not abuse it for a few extra mpg, While towing Im stuck at 55mph any way. But It leave me with enough to breeze up 8% grades without any problems at all
