(should say life's other needs) Been walking among my "projects" out in the backyard alot lately...can't do much else in today's recession. So I've been sorting out a priority list, reading other "if you could only have 2 cars, what would they be?" threads, and looking at the future of gas prices, etc.... I don't plan on selling any at this time (except my current daily drivers), however I can't pinpoint the need to finish any one of them right now. The recession and loss of income has contributed to this greatly. None would be a practical daily driver for my 100 mile a day commute (when I go back to work). So I'm thinking of starting over by putting the cart before the horse: a 4x4 truck and an economy car, but I don't like anything new w/payments. One truck I want is a Mercury. One other truck I want is a '59/60 4x4. Another I really like is the '58 grille. And then there's the big window of these Ford varieties. So my question is, did Mercury make their '57-60 pickups with big windows? with the later years also as 4x4's? I suppose I could always mix a few together to make what I want, but that would disturb the Merc purists, lol. I would likely put a plow on it as well, and need something to tow trailers, so the M250/350 would be the hot ticket. But that would be one. The second would be something more economical, yet cool. I haven't figured that one out yet.
The project '48 F1 will still sit in the garage.
Lastly, I sure envy those of you with only one project to concentrate on.
Yep, I feel your pain, ah, I mean plan. Thanks for the post, got me thinking (as usual) and I was writing back to you and turned out I got so upset with myself, (letter to follow, maybe) that I’m going to the shop to break something.
So put togeather what ever year you want fake Merc with a 250/300 I6 with electronic ignition and EFI set the front and rear gears as your best road gears - you have a low range t-case for the tough parts.
Keep in mind that since you live in North BFE no-one is likely to run into you - We're more likely to see a CNN headline of "Man driving Fake Merc gets eaten while wrestling a Bear over a road kill moose."

That was my thought exactly,lol.
Old F1, didn't mean to cause you to break something, lol. I've been out breaking stuff today, too. Mostly my back. Never thought my old porch would be so stubborn to move.

Only one project ?!?!?!
Now what possible fun could that be? It would be like having a job. I have way too short of an attention span for that sort of thing. I just regret not having enough work space to work on all my projects at one time. I actually find having several projects to be useful in times when money is short. Given enough time, I come across the stuff I need cheap or even free sometimes. If I had workspace for all of the projects I could just bounce from one to another and use the stuff as I acquire it.

I have more than one project but can only afford to concentrate on one at a time, if I were to spend my money doing both I'd never see the light at the end of the tunnel, besides my wife wants to see my panel finished and gives me that scornful look any time I mention I'd like to work on the other, lol

It is the firm policy of the King of the Hill Club, (a local garage meeting of neighbors here), that women are not allowed to interfere in any way with the activities of our shops and garages unless they are actually going to do real work there. That includes making decisions about what gets worked on. Of course that doesn't stop them from trying. hey, you gotta draw the line someplace.
