completly lost 86 ranger

ok, i got this a few weeks ago. i was told needs a slave cylinder. replaced with a brand new on, still didnt work, bleed it several times, nothing. i drop the tranny again and looked over ever thing. clutch presure plate all lokked good. seal in slave cylinder is in there. replaced the master cylinder with a brand new one. changed thats seal too. bleed it and worked for awhile. then started to act up again. wouldnt release. bleed it and works fine.

i have changed all the seals except for the one that is behind a snape ring and only because neither items came with a seal for that location. i put rtv there thinking it might be leaking air there. i dont see no fluid anywhere.

i dont know what is wrong with this truck. i put it on stands the day before to bleed it but decided to do it tomorrow. well went out there yesterday and for sh and giggles i started it up and it whent in every gear. drove it for 30 or so did fine. got home today and was going to take it somewhere and couldnt get it in any gears.

someone help me. im about to load my 12ga and have traget pratice with it.

Read a little further back into the forum, or in the transmission section, I don't remember which, and you will find a post about the exact same thing. I think there are some good instructions on bleeding the system, mentioning that it helps to have one end of the truck raised to allow the bubbles of air to migrate up.
FWIW, my observation is that they are a bear to bleed. If you are tempted to use the 12 ga, consider paying a local mech to bleed the system, and THEY'll be the ones tempted... and you get to keep your truck!

ill take a look there tomorrow. i think like you said it still has some air in there. it wouldnt go in gear yesterday. so i put it on the ramps again to work on it. and today when i got home it worked fine, i even drove it around the yard. i never did bleed it. just parked it on the ramps. i think im going to keep it on ramps, lol.

but yea ill take a look there when i have more time.

There are specific instructions suggesting that you have to bench bleed the master cylinder in order to get the air out. If you look at the MC, it's angled with the rear below the front, so any air inside won't purge through the high pressure port when bleeding. You can also pull the clutch interlock off, pull the circlip, and pop the piston out of the mouth to purge the air out that way. The hard part about this is contorting yourself to fit under the dash, and then staying that way long enough to get the job done. In any case, Tom is right, you still have air in there...

ok good news. i finally see the light. it had nothing to do with air in the line. i should have trouble shuted this myself instead of listening to the guy i bought it from. he told me slave cylinder. well i went with what he told me and never fixed it. but long story short i paid 275 for the truck and spent 260 getting to go. the real porablem was a bad presure plate. i looked at the finguers and none of them where bent. but after spending all this money on everything besides a clutch i finnally have it nailed. some hook looking thing on the pressure plate broke.

so hopefully for anyone else having a problem with releasing the clutch look at the presure plate. take it off and make sure its good. because now im kinda ticked i got a 150 more dollars worth of parts that i didnt need in the first place. i guess the good thing is the clutch system is all new and very well flushed.
