It doesn't happen in the morning, but coming home from work (Florida), the engine will ping on the highway, even just off-idle at cruise speed. Also, it started to idle high when you step on the clutch. I don't know if these are related, but I plan on pulling the IAC valve and cleaning it to hopefully stop the idle problem, and maybe looking at the EGR valve, since these are known to cause ping if they don't open...
Anyone experience either of thse symptoms? I have no CEL on or anything, and I found no codes last I looked...
I also have the pinging problem but not the idle issue. Truck runs great and gets really good mpg. Wish I knew what the problem is cause I'd hate to burn a piston.
Test your temperature sensors. ECT - engine coolant temp, ACT - air charge temp, I believe. If they send bogus info to the ECM, it will lean/enrich the mixture improperly.
If you can make the ping go away by pressing on the gas pedal slightly, from cruise speed, then you likely need to get the 4k tuneup. Run the engine up to 4k in several gears, several times. That sometimes will burn off any carbon deposits that can cause pinging.
