New MAF?

Today I replaced the number 5 spark plug in my Ex. I had the number 5, 4, and 1 COPs off during the process.

When I fired her back up, she ran very poorly and nearly died on me. I looked at the dash and the "Service Engine Soon" light was on. I turned the truck off, made sure all my connections were good, and turned fired her back up again. Same result, so I disconnected the battery for a while then reconnected it, started the truck, and let her run for about 20-25 minutes.

She ran very poorly, and I remembered reading a thread about something similar to this happening to other guys. Their fix was cleaning the MAF, so thats what I did. It did not fix the problem, and the service light came back on.

Off I went to Napa, where one of the employees hooked up his code reader to my truck. I got PO171 and PO174. The guy said his Expedition did the same thing and said the codes were lean mixtures on the left and right banks.

I came home and looked up the codes, confirming what he said. So now I guess I need to order a MAF huh? I think its fairly odd that my truck had been running fine before this dont you?

I just want to know if you guys have any other ideas what might have happened.

You might want to check for a vac. leak, making sure you did not bump or brake something when messing with #4 & #5.

I'd bet you knocked loose a vacuum line. It will show the same codes as an MAF error because the engine is receiving more air the PCM is accounting for.

Get a can of starting fluid or WD40, and spray around the area you were working in with the engine running. When it rev's up, you've sprayed near the vacuum leak.

Unfortunately I cant give out any rep points right now, or I would.

I went out there, sprayed the WD40 around, and stood there listening. Didnt hear a thing and was about to close the hood, but then I decided to spray it some more.

She revved up a hair which made me spray some more. That did it, so I started really digging around in there and found one vacuum port facing the rear of the vehicle that was without its hose. I found a hose and rejoiced as I went to put it on the port, but alas.... it didnt reach! Seems that I had routed one line to the wrong port, so I found it and stuck the hoses where they went.

Shes running like she should now guys!

Thanks a ton for the help yo.
