I have a 06 F-150 with 5.4 the 4 wheel drive works but the 4x4 light comes on whenever it feels like it??? Does anyone know if there is a switch that might be loose and where or how to get to it? Or could it be something else? Hopefully someone can help me out. And hopefully it is an easy cheap fix.

+1 on this, my '06 STX does the exact same thing. Frustrating, I know. I don't have any idea why it does this, I just assumed it was to irritate me, or a part of my truck's individual personality. Every vehicle I have ever owned seems to have at least one strange quirk!
same thing happens to me, no one here has been able to help me much. mine rarely comes on and if it does it flashes for like half a second. i suspect a wiring issue on a switch on the transfer case. does you 4x4 low light work?
k ill keep you updated. i hope to get it in the shop this week some time and play around a little bit. i got it to replicate the flashing on once when i was pull testing some wiring harness under the front end.
Bump... My 4x4 light does the same thing. I am still within my warrentee so I will post updates as they become available, unless someone else has found a fix for this.
Let us all know what the dealer finds. Also if you can have them point out what they replace or adjust. it would be great if you can find out and let us know the location of the problum.
i pulled the shim off my range sensor and now i dont even have a flash. whenever im not a lazy ******* i might try shimming it OUT and see what happens
