1. tie rod ends
2. drag link
3. loose pittman arm
4. steering gear (may be adjusted)
5. If it feels loose on rough roads, may want to add aftermarket steering damper
My steering wheel can move back and forth about 6 to 8 inches w/out it affecting the direction of the tires. This is why i think my steering box is out of adjustment.
Everything seems tight.. I checked the ball joints by jacking the tires and prying the tire up with a bar looking for movement in the joints.. I found none..
Drag link is the link between the steering box, and passenger side knuckle. I would have someone rotate the wheel back and forth, while you watch the linkage, and physically see were the play is. Youll find alot out that way. There is an adjustment that can be done to the steering box, but do the visual check first, and see were the play is.
