Brake issue

I am experiencing something that is new to my X. For the first few stops after I start the vehicle, I have to exert an extreme amount of force on the brake pedal to get any brake action. Even just in the driveway. This morning, I started it to move it so that I could finish my snow removal. I almost hit my wife's car because I couldn't get the X to stop. My butt was off of the seat, I was pushing on the brake pedal so hard. Any ideas?

I had a bit of that the other day, thought it was a snow/ice build up problem... went away before I had to stop quickly again... I may take vacuum lines for $200 Alex, I think they offer assist to the brakes like "power brakes" and if you have a leak (as I believe I do due to changes in blower sound when I shift to 4WD or back) it might not function as promised??
I am sure someone else will know for sure what it is... just my guess, gotta look into mine when it is nice one day.

Well, I can't drive this thing until I have it corrected. Talk about scary. I am about to plow into my wife's car at 5 mph and I'm cursing up a storm and it just won't stop.
