Ok guys I'm in trouble here. Just replaced the 6 disc in dash from my 04 Expy with a Pioneer aviv-f90bt, used the ford dvd retention harness and can operate rear dvd and navigation at the same time, but I've lost my wireless headphones. Isnt there a way to run the headphones for the rear dvd while running a cd in the front through the avic. There is a dual play option from the factory and your supposed to be able to press the headphone button then mode on the rear controller to get into dual play mode, but I have had no luck since its not the factory head unit. ANY IDEAS?????
Last time I knew you lost all head unit control of the rear DVD player by removing the factory unit. The fact you have anything at all working back there is a marvel to me. The fact that you're tapping to a proprietary harness garners me to think that the audio feed wire from your unit to the dvd player is not connected properly, and thus not delivering audio to the player to put out to the headphones.
well, let me try to clarify, your marveling is undeserved through my aparently poor description. The factory dvd harness can be retained while a plug at the head unit receives audio through the factory harness that is converted into rca's that then feed into the head unit through its audio in rcas. Thats how audio feeds through the reaer factory dvd into the HU, not the other way around; its switched through the aux1 on my HU. My point is that with all the factory wiring at the DVD player is retained, there must be a way to switch and power whatever circuit powers the infrared emitters on the front of the dvd. Since I know i can run the nav system in the HU, while the aux1 feeds audio from the rear then, there must be a way to "hot wire" the headsets while the aux1 is off, say playing a cd. I suppose I was asking for someone who had done this, surely I'm not the first to try?
actually yes, the gentlemen you directed me to never called back, but i have found that jumping: <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=5 width="100%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=text><!-- google_ad_section_start -->Pin 7 red to pin 5 white Pin 17 white to pin 15 green Pin 8 orange to pin 6 red Pin 18 pink to pin 16 black on the dvd plug at the dvd player in the rear will make the headphones work again- also if you remove the player from its plastic housing its possible to solder into the rear of the rca video input at the circuit board they are attatched to. Remove the four screws to detach the board you will see a plug coming off it that has 6 wires-5 white 1 blue, the blue is the neg video feed and the white directly above it is the positive. Tap the positive and negative of the rcas that run from the HU rear monitor output into those wires and youll have a seamless install. I also placed a rocker switch to break the positive lead into the unit to kill the video input to the rear to still be able to use the front dvd a/v inputs.
i now have audio through the truck and headphones using the rear dvd as a source and audio through the truck only when using the front dvd as the source, but both operate independantly as far as video goes, basically, i have to independant dvd players and the ability to tie the rear monitor into the front and run the same video on both. Next ill install two PAC swi units to retain both rear volume track controls and the steering wheel controls. I almost paid 400+ for this just a matter of poking and prodding since no one else knew how to help. If anyone needs better directions- email, ill do my best.
Wow, that's fantastic! I'm looking to put in an aftermarket this weekend (pioneer at that!) to my Expy! Definitely need to bookmark this thread.
Hit me up if you need help. I practically became an expert at this last weekend. I've got the wire colors and labels running down my eyes like the Matrix. Learned a lot!
Thanks powerkmac! A buddy of mine is an engineer and an electronics nerd, so hopefully with a few tips from you this can be figured out!
Long term, I also want to custom install an iPad, have the entire entertainment system running off of it! Naturally, there will be pics of the whole process! :-)

No need! Just buy a Pioneer NEX unit which will be compatible with iOS CarPlay in the next couple months. That will save you lots of headache. It will be like having the iPad in the dash.
