I found a legal way to convert the 2 cat system to the single cat system

I was reading the catalog on the catalytic converters and found that if you have a 2 cat system found on may of the F-series and Broncos, you can legally convert it to one cat system provided that the vehicle has over 50,000 miles, both of the cats are bad or missing, and provided that the replacement cat is a 3-way type and has air tube going into it if so equipped. With his information, you might be able to convince the exhaust shop to do the conversion for you.

I cut all 4 of my cats off, and installed (1) 2-in-2-out hi flow cat, (1) 2-in-1-out Flowmaster, and 3" pipe to the back.

From the way I understood it, it is not illegal to take the cats off, as long as there is a cat in place covering the entire exhaust. Example: You can cut out all the cats like I did, and put one cat on if you are running both sides together into a single pipe. If you true dual it, then you would need a cat on each side, that way the entire exhaust system is covered.

As long as there is no visual inspection for emissions and your vehicle passes the sniffer, you should be fine.
