As requested, here are the pics of my recently purchased 2000 EB:
5.4L, 183,000km's, tow package (3.55LS - checked the sticker last night).
Needs a bit of TLC, but that's okay.
- Ball joints need to be done.
- Fuel consumption seems to be a bit higher than expected, but we're not even done the 1st tank yet so I may be crazy. It just seems like the little gauge that estimates the "distance to empty" is reading about 30% more than what the odometer is telling me. Probably need to clean the throttle body, MAF, new air filter, etc. It could also be the "winter gas" in combination with longer idling times for our cold Canadian winters.
- Just noticed last night that one of the buttons on the keypad isn't working.. one of the important ones of course. I'll probably try and fix it myself (found a bunch of threads last evening showing where to find the factory code first, then after it didn't work, that the keypad is prone to corrosion and can be cleaned or replaced).
Other than that, I'm very pleased with it so far. Looking forward to towing our 17' travel trailer this summer and seeing the difference between the Expy and my 3rd gen 4Runner.
I'm getting a STAGGERING 34 litres/100km (7mpg) so far. OUCH! Looks like I have a bit of maintenance to do.. too bad it's -23C (-9F) outside right now.
OUCH is right. Go easy on the pedal. I started off with like 10, but now I'm up to 12.5. Try to keep it under 2K RPMs during takeoff. That should help. On interstates, keep it at 75 or less.....anything over drinks the gas like sweet tea on a hot summer day.
Sad part is I've been doing that! I read that "keep it under 2k rpms" before we started driving it. My wife told me she's been very diligent about that as well.
I would guess that the MAF and throttle body are dirty as can be.
To find out what the fuel economy is I would wait until it warms up as cold weather and winter blended fuel can a very negative effect on economy. Granted you may have other issues but the afore mentioned will be a factor.
