Took some pictures of this truck. He must live in Denver. I have seen it at two different shows this summer/fall. VERY NICE, EXCEPT.... he has a F^&*)*^& CHEVY MOTOR and your typical turbo auto trans.... WTF is wrong with people?!
I noticed the steering wheel is out of a Firebird/Transam. Truck looks good. Agree it needs a Ford small block stroker.
Nose does look like glass to me also.
Not sure if it was fiberglass or not, didn't want to tap on it to see!
The truck is absolutely amazing in every way but drivetrain. But being the purest I am, I am just so sick and tired of everyone using the typical 350/350, or now the hot thing is 383/400 (same thing), LOL.
I guess old timers don't recognize the 5.0 as being "common" and "easy" and "powerful". 331 and 347 strokers are amazing out of such a small engine. 5.0 parts are just as common, easy, and true to build, no reason to put SBC stuff in anymore.
It's a beautiful truck, I have seen pictures of it before online. It might 'glass for the frontend, however I have seen quite a few guys weld up the seam between the grille and fenders to give the look of a one piece. Either way, one very sweet ride.
nice truck. here in pa. most nice old ford trucks have been invaded by chevy mot0rs. some day i would like to get an old chevy truck and put a ford motor in it just to tick off the locals
Wow! I didn't know you guys took offence to how people build their Ford trucks. Not everyone wants a Ford motor in their truck. Mine is also Chevy powered. I'v been very happy with it over the last 15 years.
The way I look at this anymore is your always going to have people say what they want about other people's trucks. Funny thing is, is that my dads 46 truck is almost ready for paint and is going to be a nice truck. I had a extra 50 model 226 flathead 6 that needed nothing done to it. Even though it's a ford motor he always gets asked why not a SBF motor. I also had a 302 and a 351W that could have been put in it. So it just goes to show you no matter what you do there's always going to be someone to say something about your project. I look at it like this, it's a old truck and it's your truck. Do what you want with it and if people don't like it let them walk on by and look at the next one. If your happy with it then thats all that matters.
Sure, do you want you want, it's your truck. But prepare to take some heat. There are SO many good ford brand engine/trans combos there it's just sick/wrong to put another brand in it. Who wants to go with the masses and do a lame-old-man typical 350/350 combo. It's been done for decades, lame, lame, lame.
If you want a 'rat rod' then put whatever combo you want it, it's fine, then. If you are making a nice driver/show truck then keep it brand specific. It's treason to put other brand stuff in your truck, IMO.
Most guys rodding take the path of least resistance. Most SBF and BBF's have the oil sump at the front of the engine causing problems with x-members and axle clearances (Y-Block excluded.) SBC and BBC's only have firewall issues with the distribs.
There also was the preconception (whether right or wrong) that there were a lot more guys selling used SBC performance parts, than anything else. Not many could afford new all the time.
GM outsold Ford at the performance end for years which also fueled the aftermarket for performance parts.
SO it is fine to be a "purest", but do it with your wallet, your tools and skills, your pre-48 vehicle, and your time. Let the rest of us be, as we're thrilled to have a Ford and want it on the road !
Hmm.. Maybe I just stepped into the right thread here...
Talk about takin heat! I'm building a '46 panel, well all said and done, a custom truck with a '46 panel body on it. I've taken a '93 Thunderbird rear subframe, a '93 Aerostar front subframe, built a couple of frame rails to hook 'em together. I'm in the process (today) of centering the body on the frame, and fabricating body mounts. The frame rails in the front are 33 inches apart, so I got some room for just about any engine I deem.
This summer is when I'll have the $'s to buy the engine/transmission. I want to put in a modern engine with EFI, distributorless ignition, etc. I'm totally ignorant when it come's to the different FORD engines that are available these days, the old 289, 302, 351's yeah, late model engines, not so much.

Any suggestions?
As long as all the parts you need are FORD that's all that matters!
90's EFI 5.0 is probably the easiest to swap in. You can get a Donor car and strip every wire and peice you need to make it work.
I've been looking at (around) 2005 and up Lincoln's for a donor, as I want all the other modern goodies that are available. The power seats (or at least drive mechanisms) GPS, ABS (yes I have sensors on the axles), A/C, yada, yada. The concept here is to, basically, build a "luxury" SUV type vehicle, just with the '46 body. Yes it will be all FoMoCo (with a few parts made by me).
Originally, I was thinking of a Northstar engine, because I like the engineering on it, but turned out you basically have to keep EVERYTHING together, no swapping of parts between cars, they won't work. They made it very exclusive.
I wish Ford/Lincoln-Mercury made a similar engine. I really liked the ability to run on 4 cylinders at low loads.
