front drive shaft

One of the u joints in the front drive shaft on my 2001 250 took a dump.

I decided to give it a try. I got all the joints and the cv ball apart. The precision 617 ball seat repair kit that was supposed to fit didn't. The seal wasn't tight enough to hold it's self in place. The end of the flange joint had a slight bevel in it don' know if it's supposed to be like that or if not what caused it. It appears that its just not enough surface area to hold the seal.

Anyway I ordered another complete flange joint from spicer ( be here tomorrow) and see if it will work.

The rubber dust seal on the D shaft is in pretty bad shape ( lots of cracks) and seems to be made on. Does anyone know if the dust seal can be replaced?

Thanks, Mark

Either that, or the people who have done it don't visit the site every day

BUMP.

You should be able to get the slip joint cover from SOMEWHERE. Where are you getting the joints from?

If all else fails, find a driveshaft shop near you and see if they have the parts you need.
