I have a factory radio that came out of my wifes 90 probe, Im looking for the wire harness so I can put it in my 1979 F150. Does anyone know where I can find one. I tried juck yards but they say no before I finish asking my question.
I dont know the difference between a DIN mount or a Shaft mount. All i know is that the care it came out of was a 1990 or 1991 probe. I already have it mounted in my truck, I just need to wire it up. Please help, driving with out a radio is not fun.
What was involved in putting a stereo in your wife's car? Why I ask, is I worked on a probe stereo a while back, and found out the radio didn't have an amplifier in it. The amplifier for the speakers was seperate mounted somewhere else in the car. I found this out, because after we took the original radio out, and bypassing everything else, the original speakers still popped and came on when you started the car. So I took the radio apart, and it confirmed what I thought, there was no amp in the radio. But I was able to solder some rca jacks on it, and it will drive an aftermarket amp. If you have one of these, you may be out of luck. Go to your local Ford dealer, and ask to see their probe manuals. They even photocopied a page for me for something I was working on.
Franklin2 thank-you very much! You just saved me a lot of time and frustration. My fiancée’s Probe has a cheap stereo in it and I was going to replace it with a factory AM/FM tape unit from a ’90 Probe that I spotted in the junkyard. So it’s just a head unit huh? Kind of like the Bose system in my son’s Maxima with POS amps that drive those funky 2-ohm speakers. We tore that all out and put in a “real” system.
