This my first 4x4. I was wondering if it is possible to install manual locking hubs. Right now I gotta gear shift **** I just pull on. I really like my new used pick-up. I keep telling my wife to "respect the truck". She just laughs, but does respect it. lol. We decided to trade our Taurus for a pick-up. We eneded up with a 2005 Ford F150 stx 4x4 with the 4.6 ltr. V8. I don't need gobs of power just haulin stuff to the new place and home improvement stuffs. Anyway, just wondering if I am stuck with this type of locking system or can I get some manuel lock outs?
Ok lets hear about the whole front axle, Where I can get one, who makes it. I am starting to get some loud noise up front.
I also have a 2005 F-150 STX 4x4 with the small v8. I just bought it in July, so it wasn't until recently when I tried the 4 wheel drive. Something isn't working right. I even try putting the tuck in neutral first, the shifting into 4, then into gear. It does go into 4, but it doesn't feel like its working the way it should be. I'm also getting some noise coming from the right front. I can't tell if its simply the tire spinning, or if its something inside the hub thats not quite engaged. Its really quite frustrating, since I just bought the truck 6 months ago. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
the solonoid actuaters are probably not working properly, and if there is a faint grinding sound, you might have to have the hub replaced. The FWD system runs off of vacum. when you turn the truck on, vacum dis-engages the FWD system until you engage it. When the solonoids fail they either won't let the system engage, or are not strong enough to totally disengage. I had to almost sit down and draw a picture in crayon for the garage before they fixed the problem. Mine I think was from the previouse owner, looked like he hit a massive rock with the control arm while driving which bounced under the differential and struck a cross member. After that problem I have nothing wrong since. I think Warne designed this system, and it is nice, but I think I would rather had them keep the ol manuel hub system. Hope this helps, and this is just my experience. Someone else might have something better.
