I have a 2000 expedtion with a 4.6L recently it started running and idling rough. The service engine light has come on. I've been able to read the code and it says it has a misfire on #1 cylinder. What would my best route correct this problem? Thank you.
How many miles do you have on these plugs? If around 80k or so, change ALL the plugs. If the plugs are fairly new, pull the #1 and inspect it. If it looks ok, swap it with the #5. See if you get the same code or a different one. If you get the same code, swap your coil packs and again see if you get the same code or the misfire follows the coil pack.
COP stands for coil on plug. Each spark plug has its own ignition coil sitting directly on top of it. The other option is coil packs where the coils are housed in two paks if you will and are connected to the spark plugs with conventional plug wires.
