when it rains...it pours

My truck had been going maintenance free for almost a whole year, other than oil changes. Last week i had to have both u joints replaced ($88) then as you may have saw in my other thread i had to change the pass. side valve cover (thanks again for all the help). So i just finished up that job and i was putting it all back together and i found on the back of the alternator and plastic plug that appeared to be broken off. I havent attempted to start my truck again since i put everything back together for fear of what might happen.

I dont know if it was like that before or if i did while changing the valve cover gasket. Anway it just appears the be a large connection on the back of the alternator. I dont know what it is or if it is important so im hoping one of you guys might know

Thanks
JAcob

I followed the cord and it goes up to the solenoid. I started the truck and it seemed to run fine, but the voltage meter was down.

It probably the output voltage of the alternator to the battery. If it is and you run very long this way it will run your battery down and could possibly hurt your alternator. Is the plug broken or just pulled off the alternator.

The plug isnt broken, the plastic piece that it plugs into on the alternator is. Could it be the voltage regulator?

I pulled the alternator, and took this piece out. On the back it has the part # and it has ground here to test. Hopefully someone can give me some more insight. The piece is broken and i cant repair it. Its gonna suck if this costs a bunch.
