Tire Replacement

I'm looking to replace the stock tires on my 07 F150 4x4. Gotta get rid of the Ameri Crap 255/70R/17's. Looking at either a 265/70R/17 or 285/70R/17 in the BF/AT. Just wanted some opinions on which tire size I should go with? If I went all the way up to a 285/70R/17 would I have any rubbing since my truck doesn't have a leveling kit? Would the 285's wear ok on a 17' rim?

285's will be fine on the stock rim. my truck (FX4) came with 275x65x18. the 285 is only maybe 1" wider...so yeah, you'll be fine. and you'll gain about 1/2" height I think.

a wider rim will give them a bigger footprint, but the OEM rim is just fine for all practical purposes

bigger is better IMO...but what is the price difference?

adds $80 overall, but I think you'd be happier. Not a bad price.

better than the $1,500 I'm getting quoted for 33x12.5x17 for my Durango or $1,800 for the 35x12.5x18 for my F-150

you might have a little bit of rubbing at full lock (which you shouldn't be turning at anyway), but it's hard to tell, no 2 trucks are equal height it seems... the 285s should be better, and for the price difference, I'll agree, it's well worth it. People with nerf bars seem to have more rubbing issues than people w/o..

I'm running 315/70/17 with a 2.5" leveling kit and don't rub at all. While I was doing my research I found a guy running 295 nittos on a stock 2wd truck. nittos usually run a lil' smaller than BFGs though... just try it out, good luck with it

Hey martin, I have the BFG AT 265/70/17s WITH nerfs and no leveling kit(will be doing that reeeel soon) and have no rubbing issues at all. Wanted 285s but was told that the BFG ATs didn't go that big. Think I was being lied to!

They do make a 285/70R/17 in BF/AT & I always use Discount Tire. The sales rep recommended the 265 but advised would put on the 285's.

Yeah that's what I thought! I'm a little pissed about that but I'll live with it. Tires wear great so I won't be in the market for larger ones any time soon. 2 tires have 90,000 miles on them with ALOT of tread left, probably another 50,000 miles worth. The other 2 had to be replaced (railroad spike in 1 and couldn't be saved, other one blew out, not sure why) so there's way more tread left on them!
