I have a 1977 F-250 2 wheel drive, 400CI (6.6) C6 auto, and I want to rebuild the carb, but it has no tag, I have two other carbs with tags, one came off a van, one came from I gather a bronco, they all have the number 121 on the side of the carb, which I gather means 351 CFM's, so can I use any of these as they have the same CFM or is there more to it?
Like would they all use the same jet size?
I would prefer to keep the truck running till I have a carb done, in case I don't get to it right away, but if I have to I guess I could pull the original off and do it.
Any idea on if the other carbs would work on a 400CI?
Assuming these are all stock 2 barrels, they'll all work, but like you suspect the jetting may be different. The float heights may be different for the other carbs as well, since they may have been off a different motor. But since the venturi size is the same on all of them, it should be good enough to get you in the ball park. I'd say try it out and tune as needed. Make sure that all vacuum connections transfer over and that the choke is hooked up correctly. Some of the stock 2 barrels don't have an electric choke, some do. As for the original carb without the tag, you can still get a rebuild kit for your year\model\engine, just work with the parts guy on that.
I think I will open the two in the garage to see what size jets they use, just to see if they may be the same, then I guess it would not be hard to take the top off mine to see if I can read the jet numbers.
The only thing with my truck is the fact it is a dual fuel, propane and gasoline, so have to take the propane mixer off first to do the carb.
