98 Ranger 4.0 5spd clutch issue
Before I had the problem the clutch pedal released about 1 inch from the top (good solid pedal) - now (after $1300) the clutch releases about only 1 inch from the bottom - almost no clutch. The mechanic shop said I should have replaced the clutch master cylnder as well but I disagreed as the master cylinder was just fine before.
When they first diagnosed the problems it was determined the clutch TB and Pressure plate went bad (I did hear a squelling just before the incident) and they recommended that I include replacing the internal slave cylinder and the other work, which they did (but NOT replacing the master cylinder-at that time).
This is a well known shop but I am reallly confused.
Why would the clutch master cylinder go so bad after the clutch overhaul?? Or is something else amis? Thanks for any info..
Randy
I did have the internal secondary cylinder replaced when the tranny was out. The "new" problerm seems to be the master cylinder BUT
I took the truck back to the Transmission shop and they stopped their other work and put my truck back on the lift. They did the "bleeding" process again and wouldn't you know - I now have a good 2.5 - 3 inches of clutch space below the pedal when the clutch engages.
Seems a little more bleeding did the trick.
My hat is off to the guys at Bronco Transmission Repair in Orlando, Fl. they responded quickly, very professionally and full of apology. They even offered to replace the MC, even if it did turnout to be bad, at only the cost of the parts...
I couldn't ask for more!!
