Trans problems
My neighbor has a 2WD 1998 Ranger with the 2.3L 5sp man. He has to shut the truck off to get it in any gear and while trying to shift into any other gear is a PIA. You really have to force the shifter into gear. I got it to go into reverse once while sitting in his driveway but other than that I had to shut the truck off. Any suggestions on a starting point? He has also had problems with it starting after he fills it up with gas( could be a good or bad thing LOL). Thanks in advance.

start with the master cylinder, then more than likely it will be a slave cylinder to be replaced. The master look for leaks out under it and on the inside of the cab where it comes thru the firewall. If it holds the fluid it still could be bypasing not putting pressure on the slave. Also look under the truck for tell tale fluid from inside the trans. Either way you will probably end up replacing both if the truck has miles on it. so when its dow do a complete R&R of the clutch system.
