Help! gunk build up on rocker arms and valve springs
97 ranger 4.0 ohv
I'm replacing the upper and lower manifold gaskets and have all that stuff off including valve covers and there is at least a 1/4" of sludge, gunk, buildup all over the engine parts, rockers, valve springs, etc.
Does anyone have a good way to clean this off without causing any damage to the engine or having to pull all the parts out? (which would be beyond my mechanical abilities)
Good stuff, Wendell, but for engine sludge I've always used Marvel Mystery Oil. Breaks down the gunk and suspends it until the next oil change. Works for sticky lifters, too. I've silenced many an engine with MMO. Smells good, too.
AutoRX is a great product for cleaning the insides of an engine. Seafoam is too aggresive, too harsh. AutoRX is made from esters, so it acts as a lubricant in addition to a cleaner.
