:-X23 I ran a code scanner today on my Bronco because when it warms up/ closed loop, it runs poorly, little power, knocks on hard acceleration (even in neutral). Ran codes for both KOEO and KOER, I got a code 44, Thermactor inoperative. First, can the thermactor cause this? Second could another problem not identified trigger a code 44. Please help me cause I am losing my mind. I have put up with this V-8 acting four cyl. when it warms up. It is strong while in open loop. Could an air pump pushing fresh air into the exhaust not working right cause poor performance?
Code 44? That's it? I haven't ever heard of the Thermactor sytem causing that before. It directs air into the exhaust. Wouldn't think that it could cause a problem unless one of the valves is stuck and letting it dump fresh air into the exhaust upstream of the oxygen sensor causing the computer to fatten the mixture way up. May be worth a look.
I didn't think the thermactor would cause my problem. What do you think it could be? I am going to check the fuel pressure while in open and closed loop.
ok, it's far fetched, but doesn't the air make the cat operate correctly? So what if the lack of air due to a faulty A.I.R. system clogged the cat? Is that an option? That might explain driveability problems. If there's no other error code, it's tough, though.
