1985 300-I6 Temperature Gauge Sensor Location

My temperature gauge stopped working, and I need to find the piece that is on the engine. I am not sure what this looks like, or where it is located. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If I remember right it is on the passenger side of the block above the starter or on the thermastat housing. Can't remember which but I think it is above starter.

Passenger side of the block, toward the back, right below where the head meets the block. You can see it in this picture on the left. Sorry, the picture is big

i would highly recommend you put a 3 step ladder next to your front right tire. teetering on your abs can hurt after a while. that thing is way back there!

That's also a good pic of the plug between the 4th and 5th freeze plug where one can install a hose barb for a tank type engine heater set up.

Where does the other end of the heater connect to? Does it have a flow direction, in/out? What wattage heater do you use, brand name? Is the hose size the same as the heater hose? Do you run the heater all night or do you have it on a timer to turn its self on early in the morning?

Sorry for all the questions, just want to get it right the first time.

I have been also looking at the heater pads that glue on the bottom of the oil pan.

Not sure which would be best.

Thanks

A verticle tank type heater is what I have used for years on everything from farm tractors to big trucks to the family cars. They can be had at parts houses or farm supply stores. I think Kat is one brand name.

A hose barb for your usual 5/8 heater hose goes in the block with a piece of 5/8 heater hose to the inlet (lower) barb on the heater and another piece from the outlet barb (top) that "Y's" in to the heater return hose. (Instructions for mounting come with them.) Those things are usually 1200w or 1500w but either way they don't have to run all night unless maybe it gets zub zero where you are. Obtain a cheap timer from a hardware store, set it to come on an hour or two or more depending on how cold it gets before you intend to start up, plug in the heater and you are good to go.
