Need advice on new 7.3 f-350
Hello and good morning to all. I am currently looking at buying a new to me 2001 F-350 specs: 7.3, 4" stainless exhaust, 152,000 miles, dually, 4x4, crew cab, and super clean inside and out. It does have a fifth wheel hitch so you know that it has been used to pull a good sized trailer for most of its life. I am bassically asking what a truck like this with this many miles would be worth and also would it be a wise idea to purchase a truck with this many miles. Thanks for any advice Brandon in Lansing MI.
Also I would be getting rid of my 02' f-350 with the v-10 and only 66,000 miles on it smart or stupid to get rid of this truck. I basically use may truck about 5 times a year to pull my jeep around to offroading places and thats about it. thankyou again.

It's a tough call, then.
Just from an accountant's standpoint, it's smarter to keep the V-10.
There's no way you can justify it by better fuel economy.
But that shouldn't stop you!
.
There is also the priceless permagrin of hearing that engine start up and the anticipation of listening to the turbo spool up and stay there as you are pulling the toy hauler up the mountain pass.

Like Dan said, this is a hard call. A Diesel does not like to sit around and wait. If you only use it 5 times a year, I would keep the 02'. But if there is any chance you would start driving more and want have more power, then I would get a Diesel.
Good luck. You would love the Diesel if you get it.

I echo what Dan and Rick have said, but also leave you with this advice.
A diesel needs to be driven every few weeks, it has to be brought up to operating temps, and run for a while. If not condenstion in the oil pan can leave water in the oil, diesel fuel also needs to have an algeacide additive in the tank if it is going to sit for a while.
If the truck is in good shape, then 155K is not that many miles for a diesel, if maintained it will give you many more happy miles. If you do buy the diesel, please plan on driving it every couple of weeks, not just short trips to the grocery(which by the way is detrimental), but out on the interstate and let her eat a little bit.
You will be amazed at how different the diesel pulls over the v10.
