I am planning to upgrade my suspension as the stock components on my 2001 X are way past their usefulness.
I want to achieve a small lift 3-4 inches by the addition of new springs all the way around; and Skyjacker only makes a kit for the gas models not 7.3 diesel.
I have heard guys swopping out the front springs and putting F350 leafs in its place, not sure what can be done for the rears. Not sure if a drop Pittman arm is necessary.
Anybody have any suggestions what is the best way of achieving a 3-4 inch lift on my 2001 X 7.3 PSD
I really don't have a budget, but I want to find the best way of getting 3-4 inches on my X and improve the trucks handling overall. I know the 2 do not go hand in hand, but the stock suspension is so lousy that I'm pretty sure I should be able to gain a few inches and tighten it up all at the same time. I drive the truck pretty hard in the city and do not do any true off-roading. Only bumpy stuff I encounter are highway dividers and logging roads. Currently when I beak the back tires loose going into a corner, it takes a great deal of effort to straighten the X out again.
Chief, I installed the 3.5 inch fabtech shackle / Hanger kit on my 05 excursion and love it. The kit is not too bad of an install and acually I did it in my garage. This kit is for excursions, F250, and F350s and it dosen't matter if the truck v10 Gas or the 7.3 deisel. The Hanger / Shackle kit is really nice and it maintains Factory ride quality if not better and is usally priced very fair. I ordered through 4wheelparts.com and was very happy. Let me know if you need any more info on that Fabtech Kit or even some install photos. Dan
I put a 6.5 Rubicon Express lift in my friends 03' X, real nice lift. They sell a 2.5, 4 & 6.5" lifts. They are built real stout, all the brackets are strong, and the new design on the track bar is great. Then buy some adjustable shocks to custom tune your ride firmness. You'll be happy.
Well I'm having a 5.5 " lift (fabtech) done right now. I went back and forth and decided to go with the 5.5" I also went with 17x10 rims. Everything should be done and I can pick it up Thursday.
can't wait to see it!
I researched a lot of lifts and feel the Fabtech was what I was looking for. I can post a pic when I get it home.....
Word of caution--- Don't lift your truck in your garage unless you can get it out when your done...LOL

2000 7.3 Diesel with lots o stuff!!
Cause I like'em!!!!!!!!
Beth, what size tires will you be running? This will probably be the lift i go with as well (Although I MIGHT get the 7" Donahue Suspension system)..... I intend to run 35X14.5" Mickey Thompsons or TSL Thornbirds... Just haven't decided yet. My sense is that i will rub with the 5.5" lift however i should be OK with the 7"
