Do i have to do anything electrical as far as computer stuff to my truck if I put the valve body in my tranny. And I read in a past thread that it will help my tranny last longer, and run cooler I am seriously thinking i want to put one in my truck. Thanks for all the help I have received on this site it has helped me learn alot about my truck. You guys know alot about this stuff.
No PCM programming is necessary with a FactoryTech valve body. Just remove the OEM...and install the FactoryTech version. It should also reduce heat...because it provides a firmer shift...which is less clutch slippage. Read the write-up on there website...it's well done.
I think I am going to put one on my truck. I will let ya'll know how it works out. It will be a little while as I save up a little cash. Thanks for the info.

You will really like it. One of the best mods I have.
I appreciate it guys. I am going to put one on soon I'm not to big on hot rodding my truck. I would like to sometimes but I will pull a horse trailer alot this summer. And
I think on what I have read and all the good info the Factory tech valve body will be a good add on for my truck THANKS FOR ALL THE GOOD INFO. I HAVE LEARNED ALOT BEING ON THIS SITE.
You guys got me thinking about replacing the valve body on my tranny.
My SCT tuner firms up the shifts very nice at 20%, (Max is 25%) but I knocked it down to 15% because I don't want to hurt the tranny.
Does the Factory Tech Valve body shift nice and firm? Honestly I would like it to shift as firm as possible. I want my tranny to last a long time, I am just somewhat concerned about runing my tuner long term to firm up the shifts. I think I'm better off going mechanical.

I'm with ya QH rancher! I read the posts a few weeks ago. Been considering it myself on my 04. I was warned about the trans being a weak point, before I bought mine. I recall seeing the valve body for around 250.00, I'm trying to gather a little O.T. If that will save a trans overhaul, it's a small price. There's a post in the S.D. section about a rebuild, with all kinds of fancy parts, but it's over my head! Haven't researched it that much!
I installed my factory tech valve body last summer. WOW.. what a diifference from the stock shifting. Mine now shifts crisp and firm. THe tranny gets right to the point. I like it. My wife doesn't like how hard it shifts..
FYI..Very easy to install as well. Just drop the tranny pan, remove old and put in new..You will need to send the stock valve body back to factory tech for the core..

When my factory tranny died I replaced it with the Factory Tech Monster Box. I spoke directly with Greg Evans (the designer) and he told me that the new valve body does all the adjustments you need for shift firmness. He recommended not to adjust any line pressures with this valve body via a programmer because you'll be asking for trouble. It definitely shifts firm, almost to firm for me but I've gotten use to it. If you ease into the throttle then it shifts just fine. When I get on it from a dead stop it shifts very hard, hard enough that it will break the tires loose when shifting from first to second. I love this tranny though, it really works well with the blower.

That sounds like what I want.
I would set the shift firmness back to stock with the tuner and just adjust the shift points a tad. I was reading his site and he wrote that the valve body mod is compadible with tuners. I don't see any need to use the tuner to adjust shift firmness when the valve body does it for you. I want my tranny to last a long time and the valve body looks like the ticket.
I was eying up his Monster Box tranny too, if mine ever craps out I'd want one of those.

It's compatible if you are only going to adjust shift points not line pressures, at least that is what he told me. As firm as that thing shifts anyway you wouldn't want to adjust the firmness anymore than it already is. I didn't think twice when I was looking for a new tranny when the stocker crapped out. It was money well worth spent.

Yeah, I'm going to leave the line pressure stock with the valve body.
He explained on his site very well why prolonged use of a tuner can be bad. If I wasn't planning on keeping my truck for more than 5 years I wouldn't worry about it and just run the tuner only. I'm going to have my truck a lot longer than 5 years so I might as well do it right.
Not that it really matters, but ... I thought the tuners, or at least the "good" tuners, only bumped the line pressure during the shift, instead of bumping it up 100% of the time.
I remember way back, when I researched a Superchips for my '96 t-bird 4.6L (and sure enough, it worked VERY well). The idea was "you can't use a tuner to improve your shifts, it will grenade your seals because it's always on 100% of the time".
Then, the tuner people got wise, and upped the pressure only during the shift.
Which is the same thing any valve body will do. Up the pressure during the shift.
It's been so long since tuners did the always-on line pressure thing, that it's almost become an urban myth.
In other words, if a tranny guy says tuners are bad for your tranny, they are still pushing the old urban myth. Today, tuners don't hurt anything ...
Kinda like the Ford salesman using the old line "Why would you want a gas motor?"

I like this argument except for the fact of what % the tuner can "UP the pressure" as compared to the FactoryTech valve body? If the valve body is a lower "shift" pressure...might make for a longer tranny with respects to seals, etc. However, if it is possible to really "UP the pressure" with a tuner...which could be bad.
Not saying one is better than the other...just wondering about the line pressure percentages of both.
