I am the proud owner of a new Job 3 F450 4x4 CC dually, the size of my toys has increased since I bought my 2001 F250 4x4 SC SRW V10 and I needed something with more grunt. This new truck is a BEAST, I can't believe how different it feels than my old truck and can't wait to hitch the 13K lb boat to the back. The F450 will not be my primary vehicle, I'm guessing I'll put no more than 6K miles on it per year.
According to my dealer, I have until the end of the 3/36 to buy an extended warranty so I have time to do some comparison shopping. Also, they offered a maintenance program and never having owned a diesel, am curious whether these are cost-effective or just convenient.
6 year maintenance package is $2295 or $2695 with a guaranteed loaner.
7 year Ford Premium Care with 100K miles is $4195, 7 years with 60K miles is $2795.

A lot of folks here have used him and he will do you right. Saved me $300 off a "buddy" deal which I thought was pretty good. I think I paid around 1800 for 6/75 premium for a 6.4 4x4. No thoughts on the maintenance plan. Didn't buy it, don't regret it. I think that's Fords' way of separating you from your money.
Most people don't know it but Ford dealers have the potetial to cover 80% of your costs for 5yr/75k mi for any one item. They can do this twice as part of customer service. My service man. told me about this and I have done it once for a rear axle on my 03 expediton at 40k mi and 42 mo.. As a result I didn't buy an extended warr.. Bought a 5yr/75k mi on my 99 expedition for $1500. Never used it and it didn't really make it any easier to sell at 58k mi and 50 mo old. Suffice it to say I won't buy one anytime soon. If you want piece of mind, spend the money on a trip w/ your wife to ensure she'll be around for 7/100. (lol) .02
I bought a 7/100k warranty on my 2001 F250 4x4 V10. If I remember correctly, it was around $2100. At 97K miles, I took the truck to the dealer for a broken lumbar adjuster and a clunk from the rear end when starting from a stop. The truck was a little loose in the front end but nothing that seemed out of the ordinary for a truck with a few miles, the dealer thought different and called to ask me if it was OK to refurb the front end even though I didn't report any problems with the front steering/suspension. They fixed the lumbar adjuster, re-greased the driveshaft (2nd time), and replaced almost all of the front suspension wear parts from tie rod ends to a-arm and control arm bushings. When I picked it up, the steering was as tight as brand new, I was amazed at how different it felt. The bill for that one service visit was roughly equal to the cost of the extended warranty.
I will buy an extended warranty for this truck, Ford has treated me right in the past and the piece of mind is worth the $$ to me.
Extended warranties are great profit makers for dealers. When you buy the extended warranty. Your money is gone for good. I have never bought an extended warranty ever on my vehicles. For the money i would have spent I could have bought another vehicle. Save your money for fuel. Diesel prices are going up.
Looking at the extended warranty policies, it seems that even the top end one doesn't cover the DPF and cat - (have a E150 with the cat shot and replacement estimate of $4,000). Don't know how much a replacement DPF will run, but it seems a high failure item.
Don't know if I am missing something but I traded last friday for 2008 F350 6.4 PSD and the new warranty is 3 year/36000 bumper to bumper, 5year/ 60000 drive train and 5or 6 year/100000 on6.4PSD. My way of thinking is if you buy a 6 year package aren't you really buying 3 years on top of the Ford new truck warranty, plus your already covered for the 5/60000 drivetrain/ and 100000 diesel engine, plus they are using your money for 3 years , where as you already have coverage. As long as you have 3 years to decide.
