1989 Ranger 2.3 8plug 2wd 5spd Tach Wire?

O.K. where do I hook up a tach on this little monster. It has the dual plug head. I can't stand driving a stick shift w/ no tach!!
One of my pet peeves....

I believe most tachs have 4 wires. One is pos+, one is ground, one is for the backlight, and the other hooks up to your coil

I believe most coils have the spot marked "tach" that you need to plug into.

I forget the coloring of the wires, though, the tach papers may tell you, and I know there's someone on here that knows them...

I belive it's tan/yellow for the tach wire in the Ranger. For some reason that jumps out to me.

Should be a tach wire in the main harness going into the truck, even if your truck didn't come stock with a tach, so you could just find the wire and tap into it.

Is the wire under the dash or on the firewall above the wiper motor?
Thanks in advance.

Both under the dash, and under the hood in the large plug that connects the underhood wires to the in-cab wires. Wherever you can find it.

Thanks, do you mean tan with yellow stripe or just a tannish yellow color?
Sorry for all the questions, I don't want to hook it up to the wrong wire.

Okay forget the tan/yellow wire. That seems to be wrong.

I can't seem to find the wire in the wiring diagram. I might be just missing it.

Just in case anyone else is attempting to hook up Tach in there old POS ranger. I e-mailed Autometer and the tech line said the wire I need to connect to is the Black w/ yellow stripe coming from the ignition module.
Thanks RangerPilot for all your help.

Very cool, sorry about missing the wiring color.

Tach functions well I assume? You happy with it?
