Seeing as I had a bunch of spare time today I decided to do some phoning about stuff for the 78. Anyways I phoned the wrecker I got my tranny from and he has the engine that went with the tranny I got. It is out of a 79 van, 62,000kms, compression 135 to 150 and oil presure was 25 - 40. He is asking $500.00 and it has a ninety day warrenty. I was planing on rebuilding and doing some mods to the engine I have but this might be the better way to go, so I think I will sleep on it and see what happens in the morning.
It the same engine a 300 I6, I am thinking about putting a new cam, rocker arms, exhaust manifold and maybe a bigger carb on it just to make it a little more fun. It's a good engine already I just thought I would go the sixer route just for something different. I was going to do that to the engine that is in there but it has some serious problems. I will check compression on the old engine first just to get an indication of what is wrong. I know I have serious blowby and oil consumption.
wow...that does seem like a deal!! that flashman's truck has had some money put in it. if i remember correctly, he bought it as it is. nice to hear you're sticking with the 300...
I have seen Col's truck and that is where I first got the idea to soup up the six. As for the motor I think I am going to get it, just want to have a look at it first. I was talking to a few people this morning and they all said the guy was a reputable wrecker.
the big 6 would be my choice to modify too, but the $$ per hp makes it hard for me to try building one. guess its almost the old flatty vs valve cover arguement.
