New heart for the 78?

Seeing as I had a bunch of spare time today I decided to do some phoning about stuff for the 78. Anyways I phoned the wrecker I got my tranny from and he has the engine that went with the tranny I got. It is out of a 79 van, 62,000kms, compression 135 to 150 and oil presure was 25 - 40. He is asking $500.00 and it has a ninety day warrenty. I was planing on rebuilding and doing some mods to the engine I have but this might be the better way to go, so I think I will sleep on it and see what happens in the morning.

It the same engine a 300 I6, I am thinking about putting a new cam, rocker arms, exhaust manifold and maybe a bigger carb on it just to make it a little more fun. It's a good engine already I just thought I would go the sixer route just for something different. I was going to do that to the engine that is in there but it has some serious problems. I will check compression on the old engine first just to get an indication of what is wrong. I know I have serious blowby and oil consumption.

If the guy is reliable and the engine is good then it would fast and fairly cheap.
It seems this is well worth considering, I`d be tempted.

I have seen Col's truck and that is where I first got the idea to soup up the six. As for the motor I think I am going to get it, just want to have a look at it first. I was talking to a few people this morning and they all said the guy was a reputable wrecker.

the big 6 would be my choice to modify too, but the $$ per hp makes it hard for me to try building one. guess its almost the old flatty vs valve cover arguement.

Be double sure the guaranty is an iron tight money refund, not just a credit if the motor isn`t good.
Don`t ask me how I know this......

I take it your not too worried about numbers matching. I'm not but some collectors like it.

When talking about a 79 I`d be after something that runs well, matching numbers mean nothing if it`s knocking and pumping out the blues.....

everythings fixable, I assume buying and doing minor stuff to this new motor is prolly 3 times cheaper.
