I will be heading to Roblin this summer, sometime in July.I'm going to a family reunion (out-law's),we will be camping. We have been told that the campsites are on a lake.I will have access to a canoe,so I'm bringing my fishing gear. What kind of fish are up in them part's?Anybody got any secret's they want to share?I've never done any fishing anywhere other than B.C.
There would be pike, perch and walleye and maybe some trout if you are lucky. I have never fished exactly their but have fished at Duck Mountain and Riding Mountain which are kinda of on either side. Sherm might know, he lives in Yorkon so you will be close enough to throw stones at him while you are there.
Sherm is closer by about 30km then I am to Roblin.
Lake of the Prairies is your best bet. Lots of walleye and pike ( although I've caught mostly walleye and perch ). Worms and beef heart usually work pretty good for bait. ( I have a fish hut on the lake as we speak )
I'm not too sure if Goose Lake right in town is still stocked with trout, but worth a try. I think you can take a canoe on that lake, but nothing else. ( no motors )
And there are campsites there. Lake of the Praires is about 7-8 miles west of town. As soon as you hit the Manitoba border heading east you will go in a valley with a lake, that would be Lake of the Prairies.
Both perch and walleye are great for eating but I'm not a big fan of pike. ( perference )
I grew up there actually, so who are you married to from there?
My wifes parent's are originally from Dauphin. Her aunt and uncle live in Roblin,MacMillan is their name.I think they have been there 30-40 yrs.I can't remember the name of the lake we are going to camp at.I've used worms alot, never used beef heart for fishing.Would that be raw heart?
walleye, pike and pearch, with the scattered smallmouth bass. pearch is the best if you ask me!!! 5 of diamonds lure is the secret, a small one with a single hook. watch your size limits. if you pass or are passing through yorkton let me know i'll try to meet up with you for a java!!

HA!
Your secret has been revealed! I haven't tried that before.
Sedly, Pike are nasty fish, with LOTS of razor sharp teeth... Kindda like freshwater barracuda, they make great fertalizer, and kindda taste like that too. They're almost a fighting fish, they fight for about 30 seconds, and then it is like pulling a log off the bottom.
This is what Pike look like (pike will bite just about anything, they're not picky eaters)
I will be passing through sometime in July I believe the 12,13,14 weekend. The 5 of diamond's is one of my fav's out here also, especially in the river's.I will have to look into getting an out of province fishing license, and pick up some reg's.I will take the Trans Canada Hgwy to Regina, then North up the #10 to Roblin. So ya I guess I will be going through Yorkton.I heard they made a by-pass of some sort around Yorkton is that true?
not that i know of. the highway sort of skirts the downtown area, but i think you'd have to go pretty far out of your way to get around it all together. #10 will bring you right into the outskirts of town, so i guess thats sort of bypassing it. PM me before you leave and i'll give you my cell #!!
O.K Sherm sound's good.I havn't been to Yorkton since 2003,I went through to Dauphin Manitoba.I had a really good time out there on the farm.My wifes uncle and I hit a couple estate sales on some old homesteads.I couldn't believe all the good stuff for sale.We walked around this one place, must have been about a 20 acre area, there were so many old trucks stashed in the bush from years ago.I'd love to go back with a big trailer and buy some stuff.
