I notice when Im driving say anywheres around 40-80km or so I hear something that Im not sure if it is road noise from my bias plys or a bad ujoint or something else. I used to have an 80Chevy4x4 with 35" mudders and the noise sounds the same as the noise that those tires made when driving on the highway. Except one thing, it isnt a constant hum (is that what you would call it). It is kind of there for a second gone for a second there for a second gone for a second, etc. The front ujoint on my rear driveshaft has a tiny bit of play in it so I am wondering if that is what it could be? I bought a new ujoint today and am going to install it this weekend sometime. Or could it be because I have bias ply tires? I am thinking probably not since it should be a constant hum if it was the tires correct? Could it be anything else? wheel bearings? differential gears? or???
It`s hard to say what the problem, the u-joint is a good start. Since it needs replacing anyways try that and let us know what happens.
I`d like to invite you to join this chapter, read the join stickie at the top on the main chapter page for info.
What`s your location?
Is your 4x4 always engeged? if it isn't while the noise is happening it obviusly isn't Ujoints in the shaft. This suspension/steering isn't my strong suit sorry.
I am driving with my NP205 in 2wd and hubs not locked, so no 4x4 isnt running, but it could still be the ujoint on the driveshaft from the transfer case to the rear differential not the one to the front.
I will let you know if theres any difference once I change the ujoint.
i would blame the tires. if its a constant hum that dissappears at a stop, its gotta be something driveline. u-joints will knock more than hum...not constant?? transmission?? auto or manual??
It would be a good idea to fill in your location in your profile and have it show up in all of your posts. This helps in becoming more familar.
