new use for cheap gun... tar removal
So I've been trying to get tar and other stuff off my torino...who in the heck uses tar undercoat....??? bad idea. Anyway i've always used laq thinner in a gun to clean an area but with the pressure dialed up...100+lbs... and the gun metered way down it becomes a very effective way to clean those nasty parts under the car... should use a respirator etc....uses little solvent and with a rag I cleaned up a whole lot that would have taken far more time otherwise.
Let the thinner soak in the tar undercoat to weaken it then blast and wipe...
I would never spray laq thinner for that purpose. Besides if you still have the original paint it will attack it. And I know you can not keep it from going places you do not want. Now you wonder why HVLP guns are being required? 70% of what you spray does not go on, it splashes off due to high velosity. Use a paint brush instead.
Tar was a bad idea...this car was parked in a garage for 22 years and not licensed or driven for those years and wherever there is tar there is rust under it. Only half of the car was undercoted...after a wreck...the untreated side is rusted a bit as well but i can get at it and it's not an issue. Perhaps it's all that was available but it's still being used and thats not a very bright idea. I've yet to work on a tarred car that didn't have a rust problem...would rather spray the underneath with used hydrolic oil and let the dust ride.
I'll leave the paintbrush to you....
