Bragging on the Excursion a bit

Last night my truck rolled over 96k as I was driving back from dinner with some friends. After I first bought the truck, I was without it for some weeks time as I was having some preventative maintenance done on it, as well as replacing the COPs (which were bad) and new pads and rotors (also bad). I had an issue with the PATS system which was handled by the Ford dealer. They did a great job in terms of customer service, and have definitely won my repeat business.

I picked the truck up after having this work done on November 16th with 91,000 miles on it. I've put 5,000 miles on it in less than 7 weeks (between Christmas and New Years I wasn't driving as much) and the truck hasn't missed a beat. It has been dead reliable. Everything has functioned as it's supposed to, and I've been able to jump in it, turn the key, and not worry about it. It runs fabulously, too. Mileage isn't great, but that is a given with this truck. I've packed it about full on most of my weekend trips and it just goes. The 4x4 works superbly, and I have had to use it a good sum so far thanks to my driveway and the winter.

Yes, there are a few minor details I'd like to improve on it. The shocks are pretty well shot (not surprising for 96k). I ordered some new headlights for it as I am disappointed with the performance of the stockers. The steering wheel has worn quicker than I would like, so I'm looking into a replacement for that. However the truck overall gets tons of compliments. Most people don't believe that it has 96k on the clock, the average guess I get is about 30-40k. I've had a few people ask me if it was new.

This has been a great truck. Hopefully it'll last me to 200k and beyond!

Ted,

200K on the V10 is MORE than achievable!

Sure the SD platform in general has a few weak spots...but IMO it is one tough platform and proven performer!

The Ex will NEVER be re-created...unfortunately...

On the shocks...I swapped my OEM's this summer for Bilsteins...took me about 1 hour...very very straight forward and easy. Really improved ride quality when towing for me...much more dampening resistance over OEMs. I only had 32K on mine when I swapped too...so at 96 I have to imagine yours are way over due...

I ordered my Bilsteins from one of the supporters on here and got a 5% discount for a good price on the 4...shockwarehouse I believe. If you enter 'Fordtrucks' at checkout I think that is the 5% discount code. http://www.shockwarehouse.com/

Also don't discount tire pressures in your 'handling' equation...many go too high of pressure (IMO). I've found 60 front and 70 rear are MORE than adequate for towing my 9000# TT with 1100-1200# tongue...the tires aid in suspension response.

Glad you are happy with the Ex...I've not heard of many who aren't...so that speaks VOLUMES for this incredible vehicle...yet Ford caved and culled her from the production ranks!

Good luck,
joe.

96,000 miles... is that all, *****, my '01 just rolled over 140,700 and pulls like new.

On Edit:
I've been censored... I typed a dirty word and replaced the 'i' with an exclamation mark, when the post went thru it showed as the ***** you see above... I feel violated!
