1934 truck body gasket material

Hello. I just removed the roof panel on my 1934 ford truck cab. It was bolted on. It had a gasket material between the flanges similar to friction tape. Does anyone know for sure what is should be? Any ideas on a replacement, needs to not absorb moisture, and enough body to not be squezed out. Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure what type of welting it is. The average welt you can by is vinyl. This doesn't seem to be the same.

Vinyl wasn't around in 1934. Ford used some sort of a leatherette type material for the roof insert, the welting was a type of rubber.

I forget what is was called, but the folks at Lebaron Bonney will know, and may have it.

I do know that at one time, Ford used horsehair as an insulating material between the roof insert and the headliner. Anyone who ever owned one a those vehicles will remember what that horsehair smelled like when it got wet.
