Ok I just bought a 98 Expedition EB yesterday and got a great deal on it. When I ran carfax it came back clean and test drove before I bought it so everything is mechanically sound with the vehicle. Now I am finding out the "little" things that are wrong and figured I could come here for help. First I never gave thought to there only being one key until I bought blanks and had them cut and tried them in the door and they didn't work. I thought they cut the key wrong so I tried my one key in the door and it didn't work either. Ok so I know the keys have chips but to make sure they were cut right I stuck it in the ignition and it started the truck. ITS NOT SUPPOSE TO DO THAT WITHOUT PROGRAMMING THE KEY, RIGHT? Ok and it has a cd player in it and I thought that was cool except that I couldn't figure out how to work it. So after 45 min of playing around with it I finally figured out that I'm only getting sound through the front speakers. Any advice or help with any of these issues would be greatly appreciated. 1998 Expedition Eddie Bauer with Mach audio setup. Thanks
I had close to the same radio problems when I bought my 99 Expy with the Mach setup. The other person had installed a complete custom stereo system, which was removed before I got it. The problem I ran into was that the Mach stereo system has a factory amp...I believe it is supposed to be located below the drivers side back seat. Someone correct me if I am wrong there. They had removed the factory amp, and installed an aftermarket one to run the subwoofer and the rear speakers. When they took it out, they never took the time to rehook the speakers. I just had radio wires there, not hooked up. I took it to a stereo shop, and had them trace which wires went to which speakers, and rehook them. I still don't have the factory amp installed, and the factory sub isn't working, but the rest of the speakers sound good. It will be easy to add a decent amp when I get the chance though...sounds like a good in-the-garage wintertime project to me. Don't know if this is your case or not, but if it has an aftermarket head unit and the mach system, it might be worth checking into.
