Valve Cover gasket change

i was wondering how hard it is to change a valve cover gasket on a 89 f 250 and if anybody could give me some instructions or tips on changing it.. is corked gaskets any good? or what other types of gaskets are avaible. and if i need any other gaskets.

use the rubber one u are also going to need the gasket for between the upper anl lower intake manilfolds if it is fuel injection and also the throttle body gasket

is corked valve gasket junk? because thats what on my truck right now.. its leaking oil onto the manifold making it stink when i stop at lights.. will i need gasket sealer or anything like that?

I had a cork gasket on mine and replaced it with a cork one. I bought some sealer and coated the crap out of the gasket before i installed. It has run like a champ, so far. I can't remember what the sealer was called but it was super sticky, dark red and was oil and gas proof. it really works good. If i ad it to do all over again i would try and get a rubber gasket i guess, just because they hold up better for longer, IMO.

My oil pan had a 4 piece gasket on that i changed it and it leaked worse than the old one. Got a rubber one piece for it now.

Good luck, that a fun job and you can really do some serious cleaning on the engine.

Way more!!! A whole $.70. It's worth the added cost even if you have to wait until you can afford it.

AutoZone has them for $8.69... Google search for pricing in your area.

Make sure you torque the covers only to the proper poundage. If you make 'em too tight they could break or squeeze out of shape and possibly leak again.
