I just purchased a 2005 diesel 4x4 with 45k after my 2005 super duty but it was stolen. I have read about the harmonic issues with tires and finally got on the road last weekend and am noticing some of it. I have bf Goodrich 285-75-16 load range d’s on it but they are worn and need to be changed.

The Sams club has the Michelin 285-75-16 load range d’s 3300# in stock as well as Discount Tire. Or will the BF Goodrich 285-75-16’s load range e’s be better?
My Excursion had BF Goodrich AT D rated tires on it and the traction on wet roads was pretty poor. I sold them and put a set of Michelin LT E rated tires on it and it rides and handles great! I've used the Michelins for years on all my Suburbans and also on my E350 and have had great luck with them.

If you tow anything, go with the mich. BFG is made by mich. Go with the load range E.
I tow a 5500# boat in the summer and do a few trips to Lake Powell. I also tow a few other trailers mostly with trash and dirt. Everyone in the valley has 265's in load range E but I can only find the BFG AT's in 285 load rande E.
I would echo whjco's attitude towards the BF Goodrich tires. I have them on a 2002 Excursion 4WD and the wet road traction, as well as ice traction, is very poor.
I tow a 9000# 34' ball to bumper TT. I've towed this TT and our previous one 12,000 miles in the last two years.
I have 33,000 miles on my Ex and have the stock BFG 265/75/16's E's on there and they still look great and handle exceptionally for what I need.
I've heard others have great success with the Michelin LTX's but have other friends that have had horrible results with the 245/75/16's on their Burb...
So for me...since the stock BFG's have performed so well towing and non...I'd be hard pressed personally to try something different when the time comes to replace mine...I'm hoping they are still available in another two years when it will likely be time...I put on about 10K per year with most of that being towing.
Looks like the 285's even though they are D range give 100#'s less than 265 E range per tire?...what would the max psi be on them?
I just ordered a set of Goodyear Silent Wrangler's from Sam's Club. $204.56 each but they are 285-75-16's in load range E. I had the BFG Long Trail on my 2005 F250 and the traction in wet conditions was very poor. The did rid well and lasted until the truck was stolen but I would never go out and replace them due to the traction issues. I have used the Michelin's over the years but I could not find any in 285-7-16 E's. The BFG All/t's have been good for me in the past but I have a house in Flagstaff as well as in the valley and I am hoping for some snow??? Maybe one of these years??
About a month ago I replaced some Firestone Wilderness A/T Load C's with Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor Load E's. Wow, night and day different. Nearly all the side-to-side wobble is GONE. Qiuet, smooth, and good looking tires. I'm very happy. The Goodyear guy price matched Tire Rack's $151 each (was surprised at that) so with tax compared to shipping, it was about the same price and I had them on that afternoon.
Haven't towed anything with them yet, but I expect good things. Great in wet weather too - much improved.
I am watching this thread because I'm in need of some tires and wondering which are better for the EX the Michelin LTX M/S or the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor 285/75/16.
