Hey gang. Just picked up a '00 7.3 PSD with the electronic 4wd. I know from the owners manual, that you should be moving when selecting 4 high and stopped when selecting 4 low. Also, it says that the 4x4 light should come on. However, I have had no such luck getting it to engage under any circumstances. The light does not come on, nothing. Also the marks (?) for lock and auto on the hubs are gone. I have tried both ways.
Any suggestions? I have a 30 day warranty with this truck and I have about a week left. They have done quite a bit of work to it already and while I have not had to pay a dime, I also have only had it about 7 days of the last 21. Thanks for the tips guys...
Take it to the shop, somethings broken. Also try to turn the fornt locking hubs by hand. I belive clockwise locks, and counter clockwise unlocks. They are manually over rideable in case the vacuum assisted locking hubs go out on you. They seem to always get stuck from not being turned, have the dealer lube em up good so they work again or get you new ones.
There are many reasons why the light will not come on and it may or may not be tied into the engagement or dis-engagement of your hubs. The scan tool is the best bet for diagnosing this. The Gem module, several relays, a shift motor, the anti-lock module, the switch and several fuses and connectors all need to be right to get ESOF to work correctly.
I'm familiar with this system after changing/troubleshooting the aforementioned only to find out my problem was a broken wire in a harness chewed through by some critter. Mi light was always on but never engaged.
