OK, just had to stop in and check you guys out... some crazy folks runnin around down here! I kinda like it!
Anyways, call me crazy, but I'm fixin to trade in my '04 F150 Crew 5.4 for a '01 F250 Crew V10. I feel like I'm trading up, because even though this is a 2-valve V-10 I think it will pull my camper and haul all of my gear up into the mountains better than the 5.4. I took it for a test drive and I think it has a little more juice empty. I can't wait to see what it does under a load, where I expect it to shine.
On the other hand, I'm trading down cuz my current truck is newer, 54,000 miles, 3v motor. The V10 has 128,000 but seems to have plenty of life left in it.
Oh yeah, my truck payment is going to be $150 / month less
I did the same thing a few years back... Traded in my f150 crew (lariat, lift, waldoch conversion) for my current 01 f250 xlt v10... I miss all the cushy comforts my f150 had, but I don't consider it trading down at all...
The V10 could pull the f150 off its frame. When I'm pulling my travel trailer (35ftr) up a big hill passing all the Chevy's and Dodges with smaller trailers, I've got a BSEG the whole way.
It is all about the torque of the V10. The '00-'04 V10 2v has 425 ft/lbs torque compared to the 5.4L 3v with 365? ft/lbs. That says it all right there.
What makes for a GREAT tow rig...is the torque and the gears that go with it!
I also traded up & down when I got my V10.
I went from 94 F150 extended cab.5.0l (no payment) to 2002 Excursion 6.8l. (payment)
I love the power and get almost same econo.
Only one complaint. I cant just throw stuff in rear of Ex. like a pick-up.
You will save on payment & insurance with it being older so what the heck.
Good-luck -w- decision. Rich.
Well, I did it. Funny thing is, this doesn't feel like a "downgrade" at all. The SD is a Lariat, the F-150 was an XLT. I love the new truck. It needs new ball joints and a new overhead message center, but still... hee-haw! Can't wait to get a load behind it...
