Cold engine roughness

Not getting any response in the engine forum, so....What causes an older carbed engine to idle rough on cold start-up. After a minute it runs great. Carb setting? Timing? Valves? Seems to be a very common condition. Is it fixable? Thanks.

I'd have to take a guess at the gas condensing or sticking to the intake walls for a bit until it gets warmed up

If a carbureted engine didn't wheeze, sneeze, snort or stumble when cold there'd be something wrong with it.
