Bell Housing ID
I have a bell housing that I bought some time ago that I hoped would marry a T-98 to a 390. I know there is some question as to if this is possible and I get equal votes from both sides of the controversy. So for right now, I would like to find out exactly what I do have. The most positive thing I have is the casting number of C4TA-7505-D. I made a template of my 390 block to take with me looking. I also had the measurments of the T-98 bolt pattern. Both seem to match perfectly. From what I can tell, the depth is the same as the 292-T98 bell housing. It also has the mounting ears. The clutch fork is much heavier duty than most I have seen suggesting that it came from a heavier duty truck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The bell you want is C5TA-7505-B like this one:

Are you sure the T-98 will bolt to the C4 bell? They seem to look different.

(1)1964/F-B-C-N-T500/800 with a 330,361,391 with a 5 speed Clark 250,280,or 541 series transmissions.
(2) 1964/F-B-C-N500/750 with a 330,361,391 with a 435 New Process.
Hope that this helps, and I believe that Barry is correct in that you will need to use a C5TZ-7505-B bellhousing to mate the T98 Warner to your 390.

Just to let you know my plans, I want the power of the 390, but I hate to chop things up too much in case I ever want to atempt a restoration. Thus I would like to keep the bell housing mounting ears and corresponding cross member.

The current bell housing has TCAL-7505-B. THe mounting surface on the housing looks exactly like the C4 picture on top. As best as I could measure, the drivers side bolts are 4-7/8" apart and the pass. side holes are 2-7/8" apart froom the top to the middle hole. The bottom hole is covered by the tranny case but there is no evidence that it is used. I assume the original tranny on the C4 used these same holes as the bottom right hole is nearly plugged while the other 4 have clean but rusty threads.
The current clutch fork looks like the one in the C4 as well, at least on the outside.
Anyway, there is no way this tranny would bolt up to the C5 bell housing.
