Have an 88 ranger 4x4 with a six cylinder and am wondering if they orginally had a 2bbl carb or if it was fuel injected. The motor that I have in it has a carb and I am having problems whenever I go and press the gas pedal down the thing acts as though it is about to shut off? Can anyone help?
the V6 in a 88 should be teh 2.9 and that was FI if you have a carbed V6 (most likely a 2.8) then it was either swapped in or the cab on your truck was swapped onto an earlier frame.
Now stalling when applying go pedal is a usually an indication of a bad accelerator pump (carbed engines) you might want to with the engine off, remove air cleaner and activate the throttle and see if you have any fuel squirting into the carb. If not a rebuild kit might be in order.
yeah 88 should be a efi 2.9. but anyway its most likely the accelerator pump. do what monsterbaby suggests. also check for vaccuum leaks around crab and intake manifold.
Thanks for the info...after checking it's just the door that has been swapped and that is where the vin number change came.....also i am having a problem with the vin....when I type in the engine code it is coming up as a 6.8L V-10 and I know that is not under the hood!!!! Does anyone have any idea why?
