I'm new to this site so please bear with me. I have a 1936 ford 1 1/2 ton and I want to update the brakes. Any help or ideas? Also would any of the mustang independant kits would fit the frame? Frames on both 1/2 ton and 1 1/2 ton seem alike. Thanks again!
Leonard
They might work, but I don't think the mustang brakes would do a very good job of stopping a 1 1/2 ton truck. I think I'd go for a newer 1/2 ton setup. It might be easier than you think to convert.
Welcome to the boards, Leonard.
When I was in high school my auto shop teacher had a '38 1 1/2 ton truck that he put and IFS on (along with a big block Chebby) that really dropped it. If you go with a Mustang II IFS get the biggest brake upgrade you can find.
Measure up your wheel base I think its 122 in. Its quite possible that you might just be able to set the entire body on a later model chassis complete with the dual brakeing system and power brakes.
Your looking for a modification on your truck, might be cheaper and at least you would know what you have.
You could look around for a 3/4 ton chassis or the complete truck, and have all this and you know it would stop you.
Just a thought for what its worth.
