Okay here is another problem. THe DMV lady said that it may not have a title for Arkansas. Even though the guy I bought it from says that it did. How knows he probably never had it titled at all. Go figure. and of course he has moved out of state so trying to find him is like pulling teeth. Does anyone know of free web sites where I can run the vin and find out for sure if it is a Arkansas truck. I just want to get a title and drive the thing not have to move Mount Rushmore. Ya know.
The DMV lady did say that i could file for a BONDED title. What ever that is. but that it wold be alot of paper work and take a while and then i may not still be able to get one.
Where on the frame did you say that I can find it. I looked but then got covered in TICKS and gave up. THe little raskles just love to bite on me.

Thanks for all your help.

You bought the truck without getting a title?
In Calfornia, all one has to do is call the DMV and they will verify that the VIN is clear. CA will also tell you what state the vehicle is registered in. CA will NOT tell a private citizen what the name of the owner or his/her address is. There are privacy laws in effect.
My suggestion..do you know any members of law enforcement? All they have to do, is run the VIN through a computerized nationwide system. That will tell them (as I said in your other thread) what the make, model and year is, the state where the truck is registered and the last known owner, and the address of the owner.
Another source of help: hemmings.com = Section = Services Offered. There are ppl there that will do title searches. I hired one to do a title search on a car I wanted to buy in Connecticut off ebay. I'm glad I did, the title was a cloudy mess. It cost me $100 for the search and it saved me countless headaches. The original owner had died, and the car was still registered in CA, but the new owner lived in CT. Since he had not registered it since he bought it (at an auction), it would have been a major PITA to unravel the mess. Because I live in CA, I would have had to find a relative of the original owner that had the original owners Power of Attorney (in other words the executor of the estate) to clear the title. A FIASCO!

The VIN is stamped on the top of the passenger side frame rail just ahead of where the axle crosses under. They can be hard to find and see, but it is there. Maybe if you can raise it the DMV lady can be more helpful. Maybe talk to a different DMV lady also.
Bummer that he lives in Arkansas otherwise that link seems like a good idea. I have used the State Trooper/CHP to get a title disputs resolved. Best bet is to stop by a substation and tell them your situation and ask if they can assist you in dealing with the DMV. They should be able to get you going in the right direction without a bunch of misc BS.
