I am looking at purchasing a 1946 or 1947 or 1948 or etc. it does not have any front sheetmetal on it and the only way of identfying is with serial # and model
The serial # BD83H49-21854, Model # BD83, Engine # 9E-17840, Paint # 32.
Can anyone tell me what this is. Example:year, model, engine, etc.
This is a Canadian truck.
From what I can put together it is a '49 Canadian built Ford half ton pickup 114" wheel base (F47 not the US F1). Flathead V8 with the light duty 3 speed transmission
I think a couple of us here did discuss the Canadian Ford and I think we decided that the shetmetal is all the same as the US Ford it just has the differnt badge F47.
I know a guy in central MN that has one just like yours, with most all of the sheetmetal (with MN style rust holes though). He offered it to me about a year ago. I can email you pictures if you are intested in it for parts -- not sure which trans, that truck had though.
soule46 has your breakdown, but just to elaborate
BD is Ford truck 114" wb
83 is standard cab pickup
H is for Home Office (Windsor Ontario assembly plant)
49 is year
Last 5 digits are your serial number.
I haven't seen the 32 paint code before. Can you tell what it was originally? Under the dash or behind the gas tank? Thanks
Tim
I want to thank everyone for the help in decoding the serial # . This will help me decide if I am going to purchase the truck. Your help is very much appreciated.
