Hi I just slid over from the diesel forum. I just bought a 1997 E series van (ebay)
haven't even picked it up yet. In the discription it says the heads are off and that it needs a new short block or engine.
My question is will a 4.6 bolt into it, I know I'll have to do alot of swapping, but are the 4.2 and 4.6 the same block with just different boaring and heads.
I've been running Ford diesels for ten years and lost touch with the gassers, any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Well the 4.2 is a v6 and 4.6 is a v8 so I doubt the blocks would be the same. I do not know enough to help you on that topic, but if it is a 4.2 I guess there is a chance the mounts might be the same and it might bolt up to the tranny. Seems like it would be easier just to stick with w/e the factor motor was you can get good deals on rebuilt crate engines for these things. Good Luck
