today on my way home i noticed at stop lights or if i get off the gas i hear a light whistle then if i get on the gas it goes away....i'm assuming it's a vacuume leak or something....anyone else notice this with their truck...
If your truck is an 88 Ford (Ranger),as in gui88ford?my 87 Ranger 2.9 was making the same sound and this issue is mentioned in the RB or troubleshooting, performance part of this website. The cause is the IAC valve mounted on the passenger side top of the intake manifold:its cylindrical, about 6 in. long with an electrical connector plugged into the end toward the firewall. It gets mucked up with gunk and needs to be pulled and cleaned wth carb cleaner.First seperate the valve body from the solenoid by removing the two screws holding them together and clean only the valve section.I've heard on this site that it's not good to soak this overnight in carb cleaner and i've also heard to just replace it.After I cleaned mine by soaking it overnight it was quiet for about a week and then the whistle, which I call a honk, came back. It's not as loud but it ain't right so I suppose I probably oughta change it.It did not fix the running problem that I have but it might be making a difference.Let me know how it works for you.

no, i said my make and model is in my SIG....signature
Sounds more like an intake manifold leak to me. spray some wd40 or similiar around the intake gasket if you can, and see if the whistle stops. Then you'll know
When you hear this noise, is your A/C on or off? i've noticed a very light whistle (like a bad bearing almost) at and idle or just letting off gas but only when my A/C is on. i noticed this at the McDonald's drive through the other day but couldnt put my finger on what it is.
