I just bought a new F150 XL with the V6. I asked the dealer about some better looking wheels (those 17" steel things are awful) and they said they had a set of six spoke 20" wheels and Pirelli tires that they had taken off another truck when it was purchased. They hooked me up with those and off I went with my new truck looking great with those new wheels.
But then I got to thinking, wouldn't those bigger wheels and tires make my speedometer wrong? Could they cause other problems for me with the drivetrain, brakes and/or the warranty?
It will throw your speedo off but I dont think it will cause a problem with any thing else. If your brakes are like mine than you wont tell any difference. I about knocked my 2 front teeth out the first time I drove my truck. I was used to my old dodge, you had to push about as hard as you can to get it to stop.
yeah i like those wheels a lot they look good on your truck, well those wheels looks good on any Ford. They are definatley my favorite of all the wheels Ford makes. I was gonna buy them on eBay when i bought new wheels but i couldnt see paying 1200 for the rims without tires.
Congrats!!! That is a good looking truck and the wheels look good on there. That sounds like a really good price. The ones that I have seen are going anywhere from $1000 to $1300 for a set. I have been looking for a set for mine also but I can't seem to find any close to where I live.
If my tire sizes are right, you're looking at about 2" difference in height. Your speedo will be off about -4 at 65 mph. a tuner should take care of it and give some other benefits.
I paid $800 for the wheels and the tires, plus I got to keep my old ones although I have no idea what I'll do with those.
Thats a hell of a price I cant even get a set of chromed 18's around here for that price. I think that If you take it to ford they can recalibrate your speedo fo you. Not sure how muh they charge though?

Tell me about a tuner, some of the things I can do with it and what I can expect to pay for one.
Sorry, I've never used one on these trucks. Lot of people have though and there are plenty of good threads on it. Someone will probably chime in here too.
how you liking your truck so far? I'm going to pick up an '08 F150 XLT Regular Cab 4x4 w/ 4.6 V8 on friday. I haven't taken it for a test ride yet but hope to tomorrow.
$800 for the wheels and tires, plus keeping the old ones, now that's a good deal. Let me know if you encounter the Scorpion flat spotting deal. I wonder if it happens to all of them or just the lucky few...

Eh. The Perelli Scorpions have a tendency to flatten on the contact patch when parked overnight, most noticibly in cold weather. Causes a shimmy and a steering wheel vibration until they warm up. Quite an annoyance considering both the cost of the truck and the tire, too. But I'm not a mega-whiner, I love the truck a TON. And I was wondering how many people actually experience the flat spotting with these tires.
I have the 20" Pirelli's and have the flat spot problem after it sits over night.
I'm glad I read about it hear otherwise I would have gone back to the dealer.
