Went out and started my 91, it died immediately. Did it again , same thing. Third try I held down on the gas, it ran till i dropped to about 1000 rpm, and died. Code 83 came up, figured it was the fuel pump relay. Turned ignition on and could hear the pump. Tried cranking it could smell gas in the exhaust. Checked my ignition no spark, anyway it turned out to be the ignition module on the side of the distributor. It even runs better than it did before so evidently itwas on it's way out and didn't know it.
Was starting to feel the same way about my Bronco - I'd been just pouring money into it to keep it running, and decided that I should sell it while it happened to still be running good. I took out an ad in the local Truck Trader, built a mini website for it, and even had a couple people test drive it.
Finally, when a guy came to look it and it seemed pretty sure that he was going to take it, I couldn't sell it. I love that thing way too much to let go. Besides, I realized that with all the work I've put into it lately, about the only thing left that's still original is the body. Just about everything from the radiator to the rear axle has been replaced within the last two years.
So... long story short, I'll probably be buried in the thing.
hey ferrisb i hear ya , i just bought my first 78 bronco, needs alot of work, i've been building a 65 falcon for the last 3 yrs and decided to sell it to finance the bronco build , placed ads , had takers , but when it came down to it i could'nt do it , so i decided to strip it + put all my hi-po parts on the bronc , then i'll sell it , but i;ll never sell my bronc
Ihave a 78 as well and it is the most fun vehicle I have ever driven.
I would not sell this truck for nothing, I'm in the process(Long) of body off resto. I figure it's going to take me at least 2 to 3 years and cost me about $15 to $20 thousand dollars Canadian but there were only 166,000 of the 1978 and 1979 Broncos made and my guess is there are maybe only 10,000 or so left so I'm keeping mine.
